What is it about Jews and food and the seemingly constant need to nosh? Guess ever since we hurried out of Egypt and didn't have time for the dough to rise we've kept a watchful eye on the kitchen! Growing up in Philly we had places other than the kitchens of Mom and Bubbie to kop a nosh and a seltzer. We had the dear old delicatessens called Famous, Jack's, Barson's, Murray's, Seligson's, Kelem's, Bain's, Si Green's, Barol's, Ben & Irvs and Kornblaus. We kibitzed at such corner luncheonettes as Phil's, Bunny's, Cherry's and Gansky's. We hung at The Hot Shoppe, Horn & Hardarts, Linton's and Fireman's to name a few. And we kept kosher at The Ambassador, Uhr's and The Colonial. We get ongeshtopt just thinking about the noshstalgia!
