Gertrude Dash was the matriarch of a thriving deli and catering business on West Philly's bustling 60th Street business district, but her real claim to fame was cooking up the kind of knishes that would make people kvell for. Even to this day famed Philly comedian David Brenner still waxes nostalgic when it comes to recalling the adventures of raising a nickel for a Mrs. Dash rice, potato or liver knish.
