After the legendary Latin Casino had run its 18-year course on Route 38 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey across from the old Garden State Race Track, the owners converted the cavernous showroom into the Philly area's version of NYC's Studio 54--and in 1978 Emerald City was born. The gigantic disco palace was long on glitz and glam, loud tracks and dance floor gyrations. But not for long. After about two years Emerald City started presenting live entertainment, and the likes of such new performers as Prince, The Talking Heads, The Cure, The Ramones and The Go-Gos gave the joint new life until it closed for good in the mid 80s. Those were great times, Toto!
